In the tradition of the Ageless Wisdom, Master Morya is known as the Master of the First Ray, the ray of Will and Power. Among his students he is referred to simply as M.
He holds a central place in the birth of the Theosophical movement. H. P. Blavatsky presented him as her own teacher and attributed to him the inspiration behind the Theosophical Society, founded in 1875. The correspondence that he and the Master Koot Hoomi (K. H.) wrote to A. P. Sinnett, known today as The Mahatma Letters, is among the fundamental sources of esoteric teaching in the West.
In the twentieth century, Helena Roerich stated that she received from Master Morya the teachings that make up the Agni Yoga series. The title of the first book of the series also carries this link: Leaves of Morya's Garden.
In the works of Alice A. Bailey, Master Morya is described as a Rajput prince. Within the Planetary Hierarchy he works closely with the Manu and exerts his influence through the rulers and statesmen of the world. He is said to have worked for centuries almost as a single unit with his brother, the Master K. H.
